Further, the Sault Area Chamber of Commerce remains the voice of local businesses, conveying members’ concerns and interests at the local, state and national levels. With more than a century of service to its members, the Chamber is the premiere business association in Chippewa County and the Eastern Upper Peninsula. More than 400 members strong, the Chamber is the business hub of the community, providing a wide range of educational, networking, marketing and group purchasing opportunities.

Downtown Developments

Much effort and foresight have led to ongoing and upcoming improvements to downtown Sault Ste. Marie.

The district is already filled with a lively mix of specialty shops and restaurants of all types. The Downtown Development Authority is working to establish a National Register Historic District, which would create tax credits for revitalization of historic structures.

A fountain, parking spaces, canopies and a stage for events has recently been added at Ashmun Street and Portage Avenue, and the Gustafson parking lot will be redeveloped to provide pedestrian access to a new parking structure and Ashmun Street businesses.

Other design and improvement projects are happening around the downtown as the district is rejuvenated while celebrating its historical significance.
