The team at War Memorial Hospital has a mission: To treat each person who arrives through its doors seeking medical care as someone’s father, mother, sister or brother. That caring touch is paired with the latest technology to create a quality healthcare environment.
Plenty of improvements are under way at the hospital as well. War Memorial is establishing Centers of Excellence in Women’s Health, Cardiology, Orthopedics/Rehabilitation and Cancer Care. Acquiring advanced technology is making the centers a reality. For instance, a new digital mammography machine along with a sterotactic breast biopsy system will allow the women’s center advanced imaging services not offered anywhere else in the Upper Peninsula.
The hospital has also received approval for a fixed Magnetic Resonance Imaging machine (MRI) as well as a new CT Scanner with full cardiac capabilities. “These pieces of equipment will enhance our ability to provide advanced information to our physicians so they can provide the best care possible to our patients,” said David Jahn, hospital president and CEO.
The hospital’s downtown location, new parking garage, anticipated overhead walkway to the downtown and growth through the years have made it an important community and economic component, With 82 beds, the acute-care community hospital provides a full range of impatient and outpatient services to the residents of the Eastern UP. More than 50 physicians practice in specialties ranging from family practice to neurology, ensuring the needs of residents and visitors are met on a daily basis.
