Chippewa County is served by two regional airports.
Our commercial airport is Chippewa County International Airport (CIU) out of Kinross, Michigan about 20 miles south of Sault Ste. Marie. The new 20,400 square foot passenger terminal opened in September 2002. Passengers enjoy many features designed with safety, convenience, and comfort in mind. State of the art security equipment, as well as an automated baggage claim are featured. Serviced by Mesaba Airlines the airport offers several daily arrival and departure alternatives.
Sault Ste Marie Municipal Airport/Sanderson Field Airport serves non-commercial air traffic in Sault Ste Marie and Chippewa County and is owned by the City Of Sault Saint Marie. The paved runway extends for 4800 feet. The facility is at an elevation of 716 feet at a distance of about one mile from Sault Ste Marie. Sault Ste. Marie is home to two area Marinas.
The George Kemp Marina is located in downtown Sault Ste. Marie at: 46° 29' 57" N - 84° 20' 21" W. You can the marina on Channel 9. The Harbor Master is on duty starting on May 15th through October 15th and the phone number is (906) 635-7650. On-line reservations may be made here.
You’ll find the Charles Harvey Marina slightly downriver at Marina: 46° 28' 15" N - 84° 18' 00" W . You can radio the marina on Channel 9. The Harbor Master is on duty from 8am to 8pm and you may contact them at (906) 632-6741
BY CAR:
Directions to the Sault Area Chamber of Commerce.
Sault Ste. Marie is at the northernmost end of I-75; travel on I-75 to exit 392, the 3 Mile Road. After exiting, turn north onto the Business Spur (if traveling from Canada this is a left hand turn; right hand turn if traveling from the South) and continue north on the Business Spur traveling through the first two stop lights. You will find the Chamber of Commerce just prior to passing through the third stop light. The Chamber of Commerce building is located on the east side of the Business Spur, just prior to the third stop light at the Ashmun Street/Business Spur interchange.
