Critical Need

Sault Ste. Marie
fSome people talk about quality of life.  In Sault Ste. Marie, we live it!  A vibrant, picturesque community of 15,000 people, Sault Ste. Marie (the Soo) is situated on the southern most shore of the historic St. Mary’s River at the eastern end of Michigan’s spectacular Upper Peninsula.  Known as “Bahweting” or “The Gathering Place”, the Sault is home to the world famous Soo Locks, connecting Lakes Superior and Huron.

Established in 1668, the Sault is the birthplace of Michigan and one of the earliest settlements in the Midwest with a storied past populated by the earliest French missionaries to the continent and an even deeper Native American History.  Against this historical backdrop, Sault Ste. Marie is a modern community, home to the highly respected Lake Superior State University on a lovely historic campus, a dynamic and fast-growing regional medical center in the heart of the city’s attractive downtown, and modern and growing shopping facilities.

As a long-time tourist mecca, the community is full of generous people who are very welcoming of newcomers.  This spirit extends to the growing economic base of the city and county, where several modern industrial parks, three airports, low energy costs (driven by hydroelectric power) complement the friendly business environment.  This industrious work ethic of our people and strong community collaboration has helped to encourage our growth.

With the region’s abundant natural beauty, nearby Great Lakes, extensive national and state forest, limitless fishing opportunities, Sault Ste. Marie is indeed a great place to live.   With our safe neighborhoods, lack of traffic congestion, affordable housing, extensive cultural activities, low cost of living, and outstanding public and private educational facilities, this is a great place to raise a family.

Come and experience Chippewa County and Sault Ste. Marie.  Stay for a day…or forever!
